As members of civil society we condemn such restrictions as discriminatory and in contradiction to the commitments made through the 2001 Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the 2006 Political Declaration. We urge governments that continue to impose travel restriction on people living with HIV to lift these, whether short or long-term.
To sign on to the letter, please send the name of your organisation and country to universalaccess2010@icaso.org before 5 June.

Press Statement: 25 September 2007
Civil society calls new UK Global Fund pledge ‘a pittance’.
(BERLIN) On the eve of a replenishment meeting of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, civil society warned other G8 donors not to follow the poor example set by the UK, who today announced their contribution to the Global Fund—an 8-year pledge of USD 2 billion. When divided evenly by year, the UK pledge would only amount to 20% more than the UK’s current funding level.

Universal Access (UA) Campaigner's Update is a quarterly campaigner's newsletter on AIDS campaigning around the world

This meeting should help us think ahead to avoid people running around on 25th November looking for resources [for World AIDS day activities]. And it also gives us an opportunity to develop a framework of how to get organised for key moments such as 1 December for years to come,” said Allan Raggi, Director of the Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) as he opened the Kenya National Campaigners meeting held in Nairobi from 21st to 23rd August, 2007.“
