National Campaigners Meeting on Universal Access
The National Campaigner’s Meeting on Universal Access took place 2 – 4 July in Nairobi. Civil society representatives from all over the world came together to discuss how to make universal access to prevention, treatment, care and support become a reality for everyone by 2010.
The meeting helped to highlight the many extraordinary opportunities currently existing for joint campaigning efforts. Universal access was discussed both in terms of the national campaigning efforts and also in terms of its international campaigning opportunities. But the meeting gave a useful illustration of the challenges ahead, outlining the many fault lines within the international civil society response, where a competitive funding environment and orientation to simple quantifiable deliverables, and poor communication serve to fragment and hinder shared campaigning efforts.

The meeting marks increasing concern over the lack of progress in the fight against AIDS. Organised by the World AIDS Campaign, the meeting is being held at the Panafric Sarova Hotel 2-4 July.
