Impacts of the Travel Restrictions

Studies based on experiences of people HIV traveling to the US under the restrictive policies have shown that the ban does not keep people out, but instead causes people to lie, or hid their status at the border. The fear of getting caught might cause people to not travel with meds, or not visit a doctor if they are sick. Further this can be devastating to people traveling to a country to immigrate, visit, etc. if they are tested and then not allowed in the country as they become isolated from family and friends. The restrictions are a clear violation of people living with HIV’s human rights, which include the right to privacy, confidentiality, protection from stigma and discrimination.
